Hey papa j, glad your on board. I think it's even more crazy to think that Jesus knew the man wouldn't follow orders, yet loved him enough to heal him anyway.
Carl here, I've just started reading Mark 1. IMO, I think that Jesus told him not to tell anyone because he knew the lepor would tell EVERYBODY and their momma! In a way I guess he knew it was inevitable by doing it that way.
Welcome to the discussion Carl! Earlier I said that Jesus knew the man wouldn't follow the warning. I don't think that means that Jesus didn't want the man to keep silent. I also don't think it means the man didn't have the ability to keep silent. It was in Jesus' best interest to keep his healing ministry low key because of crowd control (we are told of this resulting problem in the text). Again, the amazing thing to me is that compassion compelled Christ to heal in spite of what I believe he knew would happen. I just don't think reverse psychology was Jesus' intention.
As I read to catch up, I noticed the thongs on whome I am unworthy to untie. It's interesting how John says it more then once. I'd always figure that when someone says something like this, it always changes in some way, even the smallest way.
Is it just me, because I could've sworn that I've heard a few passages repeated several times among the many chapters we've been reviewing in this thing.
By the way, I think this is a good idea. I know I'm following it, and there is a good chance that many others wouldn't mind doing this every week from now on. just a thought.
One thing I have noticed is that Jesus had a definate purpose in His life, and was totally focused, but never got in a real big hurry. He got more done than anyone in history, and still somehow life made sense to Him. It seems we get so rushed that sometimes it feels we are going 90 miles an hour and getting nowhere, yet Jesus did it differently and still got more done.

I think it's more then that, but I think compassion is one of the many reasons. I could be wrong about the everything else though.

After reading Liviticus 4, we really seem to have it easy now. Since Jesus died for us, all we have to do is ask for forgiveness. That is great!
