Christmas Chat Week 2

I think this week's readings will go much easier. Still, I appreciate your comments and feedback.

This Sunday we will be discussing Mary's proper place in history. She was chosen and blessed. There is much to appreciate about her life. For centuries, the Church has struggled to find the proper place for her. This is most visible in the differing views of Catholics and Protestants. Although not necessarily specific to this week's reading, I would love to know your questions (if you have any) about Mary and the way she is viewed by both Catholics and Protestants.

I have seen commentaries in which the explanation for Mary's elevation in status within the Catholic Church is due to their attempt to make Christianity more palatable to the pagans, who worship goddesses as well as gods. This makes sense, as a lot of the traditions, names, and (in some cases) timing of Christian holidays are based in pagan beliefs - morphed to fit the Christian meaning of the holiday.

That makes sense. The Catholic Church elevates Mary, and I believe even prays to her. I never knew why, but that makes sense if they were trying to reach pagans. It also shows why I believe the Bible is the ultimate guide for what to follow. If we follow it, I believe we will be led in the right direction.

I agree Bob. The Bible must be our final authority.
