Hebrews 2

Welcome to Hebrews chapter two!

Joe/Vicky posted this under "Hebrews 1"

In Hebrews chapter 2 it says that Jesus was made a little lower than the angels (vs 7 & 9). Doesn't that contradict what we learned in Chapter 1? What am I missing?

It's a good question...any opinions before I answer?

I took that as a comment on his taking on a human form. Not that HE personally was lower than the angels, but that the form HE assumed here on earth was the form GOD designed to be a little lower than the angels.
The angels continued to minister to HIM while he was here, so HE still was higher.

I agree with the other comments. I will talk a little more about this Sunday, but the author is referring to the incarnation. Remember on Sunday we said that the Jews at this time percieved God as supreme, angels as second in prominence, followed by man. So, when the Son became flesh, he lowered himself below the angels. This is how the incarnation would have been understood.
