Ruth 3

This Sunday we will be discussing the concept of propriety, or doing things the right way. Sometimes propriety puts us at odds with what we think is the quickest path to get what we want (even when we want good things). In our culture, the plan is usually, "Do what you want to get what you want." God's plan is always, "Do what I want and I'll give you what I want." For the believer, this is good news because as our hearts mature, we begin to desire what God wants for us. We also realize that His plan is always best. Still, it takes discipline to stay the course when it appears that we are putting the outcome at risk. Ruth's story is a great illustration of how God rewards those who do what is right. In your life, how has a sense of propriety affected the way you make decisions? If it hasn't been a conscious consideration, have you felt its pressure on your heart unexpectedly? Do the ends ever justify the means?

It is strange how that works, but God's way is always right. There are a lot of times when I would have been better off to do things God's way.

When I believe that what I want is what God wants for me too, and then things don't work out the way I expect, I begin to question if what I want is really what God wants for me. I have a hard time knowing if He wants me to do something or just have faith that He is taking care of it.

It is hard to know what God wants us to do sometimes. It seems we don't know until afterwards what God wanted us to do in the situation. That is how things seem for me.
